Our family-owned company was founded in 1952, selling stage makeup to starlets out of a small store in New York City. We got to know some of the top artists in theater and film, bonding over our shared pride in our work.

We realized quickly that our passion for top-quality professional makeup was matched only by a drive to help people pursue passions of their own. As makeup artists began referring their clients to us to learn about favorite products, we recognized that same drive in so many others.

From Lübbeke in North Rhine Westphalia, Eduard Gerlach GmbH supplies foot specialists from all over the world. From 1978 to 2015, Klaus Gerlach- Meinders and Jobst-Peter Gerlach-von Waldthausen jointly and successfully managed the traditional company. Since January 2016, Jobst-Peter Gerlach-von Waldthausen has held sole responsibility for management.

MATRIX, a leading professional haircare and hair color company in the United States, is part of L’Oreal USA’s Professional Products Division.

Matrix was founded in 1980 by the American husband and wife hairdressing team, Arnie and Sydell Miller. Before he founded Matrix, Mr. Miller was a hairdresser for over 20 years. Mr. Miller decided to try his hand at running a different kind of company in 1971, when he developed individually applied eyelashes. He formed a firm, Ardell, to market the product to retailers and to beauty salons. Ardell eventually created and sold a hair color product.

In the late 1970s, Mr. Miller saw that the retail market was shrinking and decided to sell Ardell in 1980 in order to concentrate on building Matrix, which would market its products only to professional haircare buyers.
